ABOUT JACK HOUSE TRANSIT

We are Building and House Removal Professionals who also specialise in buying and selling used houses which can be relocated directly to your site, repiling, lifting houses for basements and the like. We insure all of the buildings we shift and also offer an optional in-house design service which can help in obtaining your Council consents if you wish.

Great job with shifting house....and much less mess than expected given the bad weather.

A SHORT PIECE OF HISTORY

We are Building and House Removal Professionals.  Our range of work includes full repiles, lifting houses for basements and site shifts which is a great way to create that extra section for development.

In our yard in Hamilton, you will also find a large selection of second hand buildings for relocation to your site.

1896

George Jack was a humble man and back in 1896 he shifted his first building, in doing so he founded the oldest building removal company still in operation within New Zealand today. George Jack is seated on the left in a straw boater.

1928

George Jack's son Vic Jack started working for his father in 1928 and took over the helm in the 1930s.

1948

Over it's life the company has been responsible for some of the greatest advancements in the building removal industry now in common practice throughout Australasia. This includes the invention of the hydraulic house lifting jack developed in 1948 and a version of this is still used by our own team today.

1959-1960

The invention of the hydraulic lifting house trailer was completed with steering bogeys at each end in 1959/60.
Another initiative created by Jack House Transit is the hydraulically operated sliding turntable.

1967

Vic Jack's sons, Des and Neville started with the company after they each left school in 1957 and 1960 respectively. They purchased the the business in 1967 and Des along with his son Aaron are the current Directors.  Neville, who built many houses in the Waikato under the 'Jack' umbrella remained a huge part of the business until his passing in July 2020.

1987

The company moves it's main operations to 1 hectare in Kahikatea Drive in the centre of Hamilton. More room for equipment storage and space to build more new transportable homes. More land is subsequently purchased eventually creating a yard of 18 acres.

Prior to this there were offices located in Riverlea Road, Hillcrest and Macfarlane Street, Hamilton East. Yards have also been situated in Te Awamutu and Taupo and reps in Auckland. We regularly cover the area from Whangaparoa in the north to Taihape in the south, west to east coast across the Waikato, King Country, Bay of Plenty and up the Thames Coromandel Peninsula.

2016

A big change has arrived for Jack House Transit Ltd. We have moved north on our site and are now located at 21 Quentin Drive, Hamilton. This is basically the same area in Kahikatea Drive but we are now behind the Bunnings South store.

After 19 years in the business, Des' son Aaron has moved up from a Contract Manager to become a Director alongside Des.

We have a little village of second hand houses and buildings here you can come down and have a wander through.
